Cayman Islands Chamber to host BE INFORMED session on proposed ‘Consumer Protection Bill’

Chamber of Commerce President Paul Byles is urging all businesses to engage in the consultation process for the proposed Consumer Protection and Guarantees bill, for which the deadline for consultation is now Thursday, March 1st.

The proposed legislation will impact a diverse set of Chamber members ranging from financial services businesses to carpenters. “We will be arranging a BE INFORMED information session for our members to ensure they are fully apprised of the key requirements of the proposed legislation and to also gauge any concerns”, said Mr. Byles.

“A key area of consideration for all businesses is to assess if this new legislation will require them to make changes to their existing procedures, and contracts. Such changes can have a significant impact depending on the current approach being taken by the business,” he added

The Chamber is urging businesses to participate in the consultation process because it will be more difficult to ask for changes once the law has already been passed.

The Chamber will combine that feedback from its members with the results of a focus group working on the issue, and provide its feedback to the law reform commission.

The Chamber’s BE INFORMED information session will be held on Thursday, 22nd February at the Chamber’s conference room in Governors Square. Register online at caymanchamber.ky.
